The need of a platform where entrepreneurs, freelancers and other individuals can meet, work and collaborate with each other was looming in Dhaka as well as in Bangladesh for a long time. While cafes are good places to meet and there is always food, it certainly is NOT the most productive environment. Plus tools such as whiteboard, projectors and etc are always missing. And above all, in a mega city like Dhaka the cafe management will not be very happy to host you all day. The idea for hubdhaka was born out of our own bitter experience.
Sajid Islam, returned to Bangladesh after 18 years in the USA with the dream of starting his own startup. However he struggled to find one common place where startups; freelancers and SME’s co-existed and worked out of. Furthermore, he faced a challenge to find a productive work environment which can boost productivity to the fullest. Often times he was forced to host meetings in other people’s office which was not always convenient or at cafe’s that were full of distractions, expensive and/or unproductive. And finally one day during a 10 people volunteer team meeting at a cafe in Dhanmondi, he was asked to leave since they have finished eating the food. It is then Sajid realized, understood the importance of a space in Dhaka. Something that people in the west take for granted. Dhaka badly needed a space, a space that boosts up creativity and where people can work and have meeting. The idea of hubdhaka was born right then.
